Professional Experience

JOEL MARK practice emphasizes trial practice, complex business litigation, appeals and arbitration in all state and federal courts and alternative dispute resolution forums.

He handles a wide range of matters including trademark, trade secret and competitive business practice cases; real estate disputes; general contract and business disputes; banking litigation; shareholder dissolution and valuation actions; director and officer liability matters; and insurance coverage disputes. In addition, he has handled securities and broker/dealer cases and has represented attorneys and accountants in numerous malpractice and malicious prosecution cases. Mr. Mark also has handled major arbitration matters before alternative dispute resolution forums such as the American Arbitration Association and the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration and serves as a commercial and securities arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and the Ventura County and Los Angeles County Superior Court panel of arbitrators.

Community

Mr. Mark is a Charter Member of the Los Angeles Association of Business Trial Lawyers and a member of the Ventura and Los Angeles County Bar Associations. He has served on the Los Angeles Chapter Board of Directors for the Federal Bar Association. Mr. Mark served as a Referee for the California State Bar Court from 1984-1989, and as a member of the California State Bar Standing Committee on Mandatory Fee Arbitration from 1993-1997 (Chair 1997) and from 2003-2008 (Chair 2007-8; Assistant Presiding Arbitrator 2005-2007; Presiding Arbitrator 2009-present). He also has served as a member of the State Bar of California Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct from 2000-2002. Mr. Mark is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ventura County Bar Association, and serves on its Mandatory Fee Arbitration Committee and its Judicial Evaluation Committee. Mr. Mark also is a member of the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association (President 2007; CAOC Chapter President of the Year 2007).

Education

Mr. Mark received his undergraduate education at the University of California at Berkeley (A.B., 1969), and his legal education at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law (J.D., 1972). He was admitted to the State Bar of California in December 1972 and the State Bar of Colorado in August 1994. He is also admitted to the United States Supreme Court; the United States Court of Appeals, Federal Circuit and Ninth Circuit; and the United States District Court, all Districts of California.

Personal

Mr. Mark's interests include wine-making and service on the National Board of Directors of the American Youth Soccer Organization (National President 2000-04; AYSO Hall of Fame Inductee, 2008; Chair, AYSO Audit Committee, 2006-Present).
