Ventura County employers should be aware that the Ventura County District Attorney's office has recently launched a pilot program allowing their investigators to walk into an employer's location and request a copy of the workers' compensation insurance policy.
If employers cannot show proof of a valid workers' compensation policy, they have 10 days to provide that proof to the investigators. If they fail to do so, the District Attorney's office can cite the employer with a misdemeanor violation under Labor Code section 3700.5. We have been advised that the District Attorney 's office intends to pursue these citations.
If you have not dusted off your policy in recent months, this is another good reason to make sure that it is up to date, all information is current and you have a copy close at hand.
