The September HR Management Strategy Roundtable, Employment Law Seminar “I Need to Know Where This Relationship is Going – Classifying Workers as Employees, Independent Contractors, Exempt, Non-Exempt, Salaried, Hourly, Volunteer or Temporary” is scheduled from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at the Best Western Posada Royale in Simi Valley. Attorneys Karen L. Gabler and Jonathan Fraser Light of Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton are the presenters.
The highly informative and interactive session will focus on potential legal problems facing California employers due to the destructive impact of misclassification of workers. For example, treating an employee as an independent contractor or a non-exempt employee as exempt can result in damages and penalties simultaneously assessed by a minimum of five state and federal agencies, as well as civil liability to the employer. Attendees will learn about tips and pitfalls such as: when is a worker an employee, "My employee is salaried, so I don't owe him overtime, right?", and the three critical exemptions and a few available alternatives, in addition to other need-to-know human resources ins and outs.
Sponsored by Nordman Cormany Hair & Compton, “I Need to Know Where This Relationship is Going – Classifying Workers as Employees, Independent Contractors, Exempt, Non-Exempt, Salaried, Hourly, Volunteer or Temporary” is best suited for business owners, managers, and HR professionals. There is no cost, pre-registration is required, and seating is limited. To register or for more information, contact Dinorah Baker at (805) 988-8337 or dbaker@nchc.com.
